CADORVEN Lighting Guide
COB vs SMD LED Strip Lights
Start with the light line you need to see
COB is a sensible starting point when the strip or diffuser will be directly visible and a smooth line is the priority. The final appearance still depends on the spacing between the strip and diffuser, the profile geometry and the diffuser material. A sample in the intended profile gives a better answer than the strip label alone.
SMD is often the stronger comparison when the project calls for a particular high output, high fidelity or dynamic color option. Its packaged LED construction can also suit projects where familiar component geometry or a specific service approach matters.
How SOB fits into the CADORVEN range
CADORVEN VELO products use the supplier designation SOB. That name should be read from the documentation for the proposed product. It should not be assumed that every SOB product has the same construction as every strip sold as COB.
To review one current short-cut SOB configuration, see the VELO FREE CUTTING 240 model page. Match its documented cut positions and dimensions to the detail being planned.
Compare the details that affect installation
For either architecture, check chip or LED density, the phosphor or encapsulation structure, PCB width, cut interval, output and thermal limits. Connector geometry matters as well. These details determine whether the strip fits the profile, can be cut where the drawing requires and can be connected without an improvised joint.
Is every COB strip completely dot free?
Does SOB always mean the same thing as COB?
